Mind Map: 5,001 Goals

Uses: As a place to start capturing or expanding your thoughts on what you want - your goals, your desires, or your intentions.

Background: This was inspired by actual events. Seriously, the best introduction is the half baked article (12/9/03) I wrote a few months back. This idea fascinates me. Bottom line, as I continue to write out my goals, I continue to see my goals come to life...

How to: Click on the link below for the full page map. I've listed several categories to spark creativity and your imagination. Complete as much or as little as you would like. Also use as a brainstorming tool to add to your existing list - I know you have one. ;-)

Feature Article: Multiple Shades of Green

I had the pleasure of a spontaneous picnic on Saturday afternoon. It was about 70 degrees and sunny, and I found myself with a sandwich and exceptional company. What other options did we have? :-)

We sat underneath a big oak tree and had a birds eye view of the activity below. From my grass lined seat, I could see a soccer field, a baseball diamond, and basketball court.

To my left was a golf course. We were about 15 feet from a (putting) green, and a tee box. For those of you not familiar with golf, these places represent the end of play at the green, and the beginning of another at the tee box. (Clearly a story in this, but not today...)

Straight ahead of me, and in the far distance was a cluster of trees. I couldn't seem to stop staring at the trees, despite the varied and interesting activity surrounding me.

I observed that the trees were both old and new. Many had large trunks, and several were simply massive. Some trees were skinny and some were not.

My eyes would follow the brownish trunks to the top of each tree. At the top of each tree, my eyes would stop and I would gaze in pure awe.

For at the top, where the newly formed leaves reached for the sun, each and every tree was showing its uniqueness. From my view, I could see hundreds of shades of green!

Now, just in case you are wondering, I've seen trees before! We had trees growing up in Illinois. (didn't we Dad?) Living in Atlanta is nearly like living in a forest.

On Saturday, however, I saw the trees differently. As I started reflecting, I realized this:

1. Each and every human being is as unique as each of these shades of green.

2. All green, all different. (Good grief, the green was EVERYWHERE, even on the golf course...)

3. Nature is unlimited in so many ways, yet as human beings we try to do the unnatural - limit ourselves.

4. There is much more variety in this world than we are trained to, accustomed to, or generally see.

5. How automatic inspiration is in nature.

I could go on, but I won't. I think you get it. (If you didn't get it, please make something up.) Besides, it is really nice outside and I'm hungry.

I'll leave you with this...

When
you are outside next time (or now!), do me a favor - take a new look at something. Something maybe you've never looked at before. Or even better, just REALLY look at something you've already seen.

Now, what do you SEE?

p.s.  Drop me an email and let me know what you are seeing differently.

Comments on picture in the March 23rd issue:

"I see an exchange of strength....from the holder and the holdee (gripper/grippee?)."

"Everything. No assembly required."

"The inspiration behind Michelangelo’s Sistine chapel."

   Shorts

1) Did you know that the weight of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinners vary even though the boxes (and prices) are the same? The original is 7.25 OZ (206g) and the character versions (like SpongeBob Squarepants) are 5.5 OZ or (156g).

2) I purchased a small piggy bank to use as a prop for a recent presentation. The designated exit (i.e., the space to remove the coins) is to small for ANY of my coins. I didn't notice this until I had crammed it full of money.

3) If you have an inkling or desire to get in touch with an old friend, please do so! I highly recommend this.

Thanks for reading - see on April 27th!
