Welcome,

Thanks for reading. Hope your June has been awesome. Mine has been filled with new experiences and inspiring conversations.

This week, I've included a picture of my "next big thing" instead of a mind map. Enjoy!

Warmly,

Jan

Feature Article: The Next BIG thing

I know, it sounds like a familiar title. Maybe cliché like, maybe not all that unusual, and certainly not brilliant, witty, or creative. No worries, I'll be all these later...read on.

For me, my next big thing is very clear. After writing the half baked issue on creating space several issues ago, this issue could be titled creating A space. You see, as I write this issue, I am writing from my new office space.

For the past several weeks, I've been in the process of designing, planning, fixing, finishing, deciding, and ultimately moving into a new office space.

I've been holding out on you... well, not totally.

I wanted to make this grand announcement combined with a grand opening party. That was of course, to go with the grand brand spanking new furniture and a "look" so cool I'm even impressed.

So here is my grand opening announcement. Please don't blink, you might miss it.

I've officially opened an office in StudioPlex off Auburn Ave in Atlanta, GA!!!

Whoooo hoooo!

Now, I feel better.

And I do feel some sense that this all has to lead to some brilliant insight (self imposed), or something for you to think about while you drive to your next appointment or to take the kids to swim practice.  ;-)

Without going into to much detail (I generally let my friends do this but not usually clients, in case you wonder), I wanted to at least give you a sense of what the office "represents" to me and something I've learned in the process.

The office space is clearly different than I imagined it would be from the look of the space, to the neighbors, to how I feel in my space.

I thought my office would have 4 walls and a door. And I clearly thought my office would actually be AN OFFICE.

Instead, it is none of these.

My space feels more like a coaching studio. Who knows, even where I coach myself on how to do things I want to do like be creative. (Duh, Studio-Plex) And if you read issue #1 of half baked, you will see how very far this idea is from who I was not very long ago.

The unfolding of the entire office space was a series of coincidences and unplanned events. From finding the space, to purchasing some old high school lockers (that happen to be perfect colors) things have fallen into place brilliantly.

The types people who inspire me weren't on my radar screen as potential neighbors. I only considered that I would be "office-ing" next to the attorneys, CPA's, and architects of the world. (No offense intended, I have many dear friends and family who are all these.)

Instead, I get to hang out with visual artists, an Olympic athlete, entrepreneurs, and other creative professionals. Inspiration city, to say the least!

Physically, one wall has windows all the way across. To the extent that I don't block the windows or use blinds, anyone walking by can see inside my office! While I've been craving SPACE the past several months, this seems more like OPENNESS.

In reflecting on all this, these words and phrases keep attaching themselves to sentences:

- Surrounding yourself in INSPIRATION

- ACTING upon on your IDEAS, while being OPEN to POSSIBILITIES

- Using your inherent and unending CREATIVITY

So there you go. That is what I've experienced and what I know. Perhaps one or more of these hits home for you. If so, run with it. It might just be that YOUR next BIG thing might be much closer than you think!

:-)

p.s. I will let you know when I have an open house. In the meantime, if you are in Atlanta, please feel free to drop by sometime. Just drop me a phone call or email beforehand.

My new Coaching Studio (perhaps a creativity gym?)

Sorry I'm not in this picture. Haven't figured out how to do this with a cell phone camera... :-)

A Picture

Being able to see different perspectives is very cool!

Please send me your interpretations of this picture to picture060804@bizsmart.net. I will compile the listing of the most thought provoking and publish in the next issue of Half-Baked.

1) What exactly is the purpose of the year stamp on alkaline batteries? If you aren't supposed to store batteries for an extended period of time, what use is this information? Are you more willing to buy a battery that has the year 2009 stamped than the year 2006?

2) I'm always curious and interested at the people I meet in social situations. I think it says something, although I'm not sure exactly what and may not figure it out for months. Over the past few weeks, I've met 3 people involved in brand management.

3) Next week, I'm headed up to Illinois to see my family, do some fishing and pick up my 12 year old niece for her summer visit in Atlanta.

Thanks for reading - see on June 22nd!

p.s. Please help me grow my readership - send this to your friends and associates. Thanks!
