One cornerstone of the NE is:

"A one page model or template that communicates a process, a plan, a system, a way of thinking, or a way of living."

I am working on putting up a text based listing of the one page models and templates that have been included in half baked over the past year two years. Interested in the link? Email me at jans@bizsmart.net

Feature Article: Plane Change

I was inspired by a conversation with a colleague a few weeks ago. I would have mentioned it earlier, but it probably would have taken a few weeks to reach you by phone, so I decided to write instead...

I have a colleague who travels often for business. I estimate that 65-90% of each month, he is out of his city of residence and his base office. I know, no big deal. In fact, you might travel more often than this.

I talked with him via phone very near the end of a three week long trip.

For nearly three weeks, he didn't walk through the front door of his home, meet with his co-workers, or even drive (the same way) to work every day. For three weeks, he didn't eat the same boiled eggs for breakfast, go to the gym two mornings a week, or even watch his favorite sitcom on Tuesday night.

Instead, for three weeks he traveled, did his business, ate different food, had brand new conversations, spent lots of time in airports and on airplanes, and lived a life of constant change.

As he described his nearly three week experience, I was fascinated by one of his comments. He said he realized that the ONLY person he recognized - that is saw more than one time - over the entire three weeks was an airline attendant. An airline attendant! That was it.

You see, my friend was living a life of newness. New people. New businesses. New experiences. New airports. New interactions. New intersections. Not just sometimes. Every single day. Day after day after day.

I was struck by his comment. His experience reminded me that within each of us is an exceptional ability to experience new things.

Now, I've traveled in my life for weeks on end. I've seen new places, met new people, and learned new things I didn't know I "needed" to learn. I've been uncomfortable in new surroundings, gotten lost in "new to me" cities, and been unable to communicate important information in a country that I didn't speak the language. All new to me.

I'm sure you've had your share of new experiences in your life. You are, after all reading a "new" issue of half baked. :-)

But in a way, my colleague shed a new light on all this.

After reflecting on my conversation even more, I came to realize that my desire to experience new things is matched by my ability to experience them.

Clearly, I desire new experiences in my life. And the things I desire might not be as simple as a new flavor of cereal. Instead, my desires might be physically challenging, emotionally expanding, or intellectually frightening. They might be right up my alley, or even down an alley I am not yet familiar with.

They may be easy and simple, or they may be complex and difficult, or somewhere in between. It just doesn't seem to matter much.

Inside, I'm ready, open, willing, and able to have new experiences. Some days, I want only simple new experiences, and other times, I want days and days of change at a time. Somehow, in all of this, I know that I will CAN and WILL have as many as I want, as often as I want.

And so can you...

Warmly,

1) I started a new "habit" this week. Instead of listening to music, radio or self help on my 15 minute drive to my office, I repeat positive affirmations about my life. So far, I haven't run any red lights.

2) I just went to check my mail postal mail at my office. I usually ride up the elevator (one full floor), and walk down the stairs. Today, I walked up the stairs, and rode down the elevator.

3) MindManager X5 PRO software training - July and August dates available. What better way do you have to spend some time this summer?

Thanks for reading - see you on June 28th!

p.s. pass this along to a friend or colleague. THANKS!
