Mind Map - Unblocking Creativity

Uses: A map of ideas to help you move beyond blocked creativity.

Background: While writing this issue of Half-Baked, I had a difficult time finding or creating a map that I wanted to share (even though I have a growing collection of over 50 or 100, I've not counted them.)

I decided to go the gym and workout as I had been at the computer for several hours. At precisely the moment I decided to go exercise, came up with this idea for this mind map.

How to: Click on the map below you will see the expanded version via a web page. Review the list when you need a creativity boost, a problem solved, or a new perspective. Read through the list, then implement one or more. Also, use this to brainstorm your own ideas.

Feature Article: Hair Trauma

This one is a bit embarrassing...

This evening, as I was preparing for a meeting (I was presenting), I had a bit of hair trauma. I showered and dried off, put gel in my hair, and started drying my hair.

About halfway into my hair drying routine (45 seconds), the electricity went out. I apparently blew the electrical breaker - hair dryer overload.  I was a bit short on time, so I immediately went searching to find an outlet with power. Found one and hooked up my dryer and continued drying my hair.

I realized I had no mirror to manage my hair as I dried, and decided to live with a bit of hair imperfection.

A few minutes later, the electricity returned. I immediately looked in the mirror and I was absolutely shocked! My hair actually looked WORSE then before I had showered!

Then it hit me......

....I forgot to actually wash my hair while I was in the shower....

Then I tried to think if I could remember washing my hair while I was in the shower....and I couldn't.....and I began to panic....

As I looked down at my watch, (I'm fully dressed and ready to walk out the door) I realize my presentation was to begin in less than 30 minutes!

I had to decide. Go looking really, really nasty, or get back into the shower and actually use the shampoo for its intended purpose.

So I jumped back in the shower (still confused), and washed my hair. I arrived at my destination only a few short minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

Good grief, that was a close call.....

As I reflect on this evening, I realized that while I was supposed to be washing my hair, I was trying to figure out how to open my presentation.
I was so focused on what I THOUGHT was important, that I neglected what was indeed MOST important.

My presentation opening was important. But clearly while in the shower, I would have to say that my hair was MOST important. :-)

I didn't come up with a brilliant opening in the shower. This evening, my opening was rained out, and my hair was left out.

Take a minute right now and think about your day. What is your attention focused on - what you THINK is important, or what is TRULY MOST IMPORTANT? And as soon as you finish reading Half-Baked, :-),  take action on what is most truly important in your life!!!!

When in doubt, wash your hair first!

Creativity Quote

"My innovation involved taking an idea from the telecommunications and banking industries, and applying that idea to transportation business."

-Frederick W. Smith, Chairman, President, and CEO Fedex Corp, as quoted in Fast Company

Comments on the Sept 16th picture

"wavy, man"

"I have absolutely no idea"

"It is a tough one, because I can't identify what it is"

Note: Once your creativity is unblocked (see above), you can try this one
again.
:-)  It is picture of steps in a swimming pool.

   Shorts

1) If a black cat crossing your path is supposed to represent "bad luck", does a white dog crossing behind you signify good luck?

2)
Local radar warning road signs read "Speed Checked by Detection Device." Isn't "checked" and "detection device" in this context redundant? SHORTS proposes that these road signs read instead "Speed Checked" or alternatively "Speed Timed."

3) Unsolicited emails for products to eliminate spam are STILL spam!

4) Speaking of email, my privacy policy is that email will never shared or sold.

Thanks for reading - see you in a few weeks!

p.s. I really appreciate you passing this along to someone who might enjoy!
